Tropical Storm the storm is projected to escalate to a uncommon highest-level cyclone as it turns in the direction of Jamaica, causing life-threatening sudden floods and rock falls.

The cyclone, which had wind speeds of up to 120 mph as of 06:00 GMT, is currently turning toward the northwest in the Caribbean and is anticipated to make landfall by early next week, as reported by weather experts.

Alerts of power cuts and disruption to utilities have been released as the hurricane generates up to thirty inches of rain and storm surges as high as 13ft above typical tides. "Seek shelter now," inhabitants have been advised.

This hurricane is the thirteenth storm in the ongoing Atlantic hurricane season, which typically ends in the eleventh month.

A highest-level hurricane is the most intense classification, with sustained winds of at least 157mph.

Warnings are also active for parts of Haiti encompassing the primary urban center, the Dominican Republic and the eastern part of Cuba, where Melissa is projected to bring similar effects by the middle of next week.

Rock slides currently triggered by the cyclone have already killed two in Haiti, according to emergency services.

Melissa is forecast to move across Cuba by the middle of the week before traveling via the Antillas Mayores and entering the Atlantic.

By the time it arrives at Cuba, it is forecast to have reduced to a Category 3 storm.
